About the Course

First time ever, in Sri Lanka provide an (AQF) Australian Qualification Framework to Sri Lankan students to achieve your dream in higher studies in Automotive Technology in Australia. With 19.5 million registered motor vehicles in Australia and developments in fuels, hybrid and electric vehicles, it is an exciting time to become a qualified motor mechanic in both Sri Lanka and Australia.

Get trade qualification for your industry experience with the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive service and repair industry. Westgate College is partnering with Micro Lanka (Pvt) Ltd to facilitate with the training experience and internship for students enrolled to programme.

Entry Requirements

  • After A/L’s or O/L’s with 2S passes/ pending results or 5C passes including C for mathematics and English
  • Equivalent qualifications in the Cambridge/ Edexcel Syllabus with O/L and A/L stream
  • Any other equivalent qualification approved by the academic/board of panel in the Westgate College and IIA
  • An IELTS level of 5.5 or equivalent for direct entry into a Certificate Level IV for Innovative Institute of Australia

Physical Requirements

Have physical attributes suitable for working in the automotive industry that encompasses manual handling of equipment including lifting and carrying heavy objects within scope of safe working practices (i.e. removing and fitting engine electrical components and parts)

Time Duration

The AQF volume of learning of certificate level 3 is 1200 – 2400 hours, which is 1 year course duration with training/practical component in workshop.

The volume of learning allocated to a qualification should include all teaching, learning and assessment activities that are required to be undertaken by the typical student to achieve the learning outcomes.

These activities may include some or all of the following:

Guided learning (such as classes, lectures, tutorials, or self-paced study guides), individual study, and research, learning activities in the simulated workplace and assessment activities

Face to face and simulated practical Learning 690 Hrs
Supervised Assessment Activities 350 Hrs
Self-paced/Home Study (homework, assignments, case studies, research) 420 Hrs
Total Amount of Learning 1460 Hrs

Education / Employment Pathway

On completion of AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, students may undertake qualifications at Certificate IV or above in AUR training package – for e.g. AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis in Australia

Entry to higher studies in any relevant field in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering programme

Lecturer Panel

Programme will be delivered by experienced lecturer panel in the field with trainers of Micro Cars workshop with practical components. Head of Engineering Department: MNMK Mudunna

Where additional support needs have been identified an Individual Support Plan will be developed which may include:
